I laughed and laughend and laughed againThere's a reason why the 'Good Omens' has a few pages in which they tell all the weird encounters with their excited fans and their mostly either complety worn-out books or shiny new ones (which they had to buy because they either got their copy stolen from one of their friends or the book just didn't survive anymore).At first I was really skeptical because I couldn't believe that a book could get so much praise but still not be as famous as for example LOTR or the Harry Potter books.Boy I was wrong.This is maybe one of the best books I've ever read and I can just recommend it to anyone who wants to read something so funny and wonderful.
Was ist Gut? Was ist Böse? Schon seit dem Garten Eden stellt sich diese Frage. Mit dem freien Willen und der Neugier der Menschen ist es nicht immer liecht, diese beiden Seiten zu unterscheiden. Aber auch für Engel und Dämonen kann das ganz schön schwierig sein.Neil Gaiman und Terry Pratchett waren in diesem Buch ein wunderbares Team! Sie haben sie prima ergänzt und gemeinsam ein Buch geschrieben, das Spaß pur bringt. Und dennoch ergründen sie ihre Figuren sehr gründlich. Dabei werfen sie viele moralische, ja, tiefsinnige Fragen auf.- = HÖRBUCH: = -Richtig genial ist auch das Hörbuch. Martin Jarvis macht aus diesem Hörbuch fast ein Ein-Mann-Hörspiel! Ich habe selten ein Hörbuch gehört, das so toll vorgelesen wurde. Jarvis verleiht jeder Figur eine eigene, wiedererkennbare und vor allem total passende Stimme. Sehr zu empfehlen!
Ich kenne mehrere Leute, die das Buch als bestes (lustiges) Buch überhaupt bezeichnen. Das war auch der Grund, warum ich es mir zugelegt habe. Und wie das so ist, über Humor lässt sich streiten. Für mich sind es alles gut gemachte Gags, bringen zum Schmunzeln, aber teilweise wirkt das alles etwas gewollt. Keine Konkurrenz für den Hitchhikers Guide, und, was Religion angeht, keine Konkurrenz zu Life of Brian (ok, das ist kein Buch, aber dennoch auch heute noch das ultimative Statement zu dem Thema).
The apocalypse as envisioned by two of today's most ingenious writers of Fantasy novels is genuine. The characters overflow with the authors' sense of humour and the occurrences show just how imaginative the collaboration of Pratchett and Gaiman has worked out. Originating from the late Terry Pratchett, the book is naturally peppered with a cartload of footnotes, which is fine if you read the good old printed version. However, the ebook lacks a "shortcut" to those footnotes, so the enjoyment of the novel is marred. It might be preferable to buy a printed copy.
Das Buch ist einfallsreich und überrascht durch seine verworrene, aber mit Tempo erzählte und fesselnde Story. Die Protagonisten schließt man schnell ins Herz und fiebert mit. Die Story ist sicher auch ohne Literatur- und Geschichtskenntnisse lustig, der Witz zielt aber gelegentlich doch klar auf die Belesenen/Gebildeten unter den Lesern ab, die Herren Pratchett und Gaiman arbeiten gerne intertextuell. Das Englisch erfordert sicherlich mehr Wortschatz als das Standard-Schulenglisch, aber das Nachschlagen belohnt einen dann eben auch mit einem wachsenden Vokabular. Klare Empfehlung für Freunde von kurzweiligen, abgedrehten und ein wenig schwarz-humorigen Geschichten.
Das Ende ist nah! Und es ist selten so amüsant zu lesen gewesen.Good Omens von Neil Gaiman und Terry Pratchett: Das Gemeinschaftsprodukt zweier so unterschiedlicher Schreiber hätte gut in die Hose gehen können – aber irgendwie funktioniert es. Und entwickelt dabei einen Humor, der auf eine dunkle Art an Douglas Adams erinnert. Der Antichrist wird auf die Erde geboren – dummerweise passiert dabei eine Verwechslung, an der der Dämon Crowley nicht ganz unschuldig ist. Wahrscheinlich liegt es daran, dass er – genau wie der Engel Aziraphale schon etwas zu lange auf der Erde weilt … und sich zu sehr an die Menschen und ihre seltsame Art gewöhnt hat. Die beiden Agenten von Gut und Böse sind sich manchmal selber nicht ganz sicher, was denn jetzt der Plan ist, der hinter allem steckt – einen Plan muss es ja geben, genau so, wie es eine finale Schlacht zwischen Gut und Böse geben muss, bei der vielleicht die Welt untergeht, aber das Gute am Ende gewinnt. Oder … wird es?Der Antichrist wächst also in unkontrollierter Umgebung auf und niemand weiss, was an seinem 11. Geburtstag passiert, wenn er seine wahre Macht erhält. Der Hexenjäger hat zwar einen Nachfolger für seinen Beruf gefunden aber trotz immer seltsamer werdender Situationen weltweit keinen Schimmer, wo er heute noch eine Hexe findet, für die er seinen Lohn bekommt. Und die eine wirklich Hexe ist damit beschäftigt ihr Buch mit Prophezeiungen wiederzubeschaffen oder zumindest mit ihren Notizen darübe alles zu unternehmen, damit Armageddon nicht stattfindet.Das Werk ist schon etwas älter (um 1990 erschienen), weshalb manch moderne Geissel wie das Handy darin nicht auftauchen – allerdings bekommen Telefonverkäufer ganz schön ihr Fett ab und auch die sozio-ökologischen Kommentare sind nicht wirklich überholt.Das Buch brauchte für mich ein paar Seiten länger als gewohnt, bis die Story Fahrt aufgenommen hat und die Handlungsfäden zueinander finden, aber die Figuren (spezifisch der nicht ganz so böse Dämon und der nicht ganz so perfekte Engel) fand ich phantastisch cool.Die Kindle Version enthält tatsächlich Fussnoten (hallo Gedankenknick!) … was etwas seltsam ist und technisch wohl auch nicht gut machbar. Die Sternchen sind Links, die einen ganz ans Ende des Buches führen … für manchmal nur ein, zwei ergänzende Sätze, die gelegentlich auch in den Handlungsablauf gepasst hätten … auch wenn der schon genug Wendungen macht.Fazit: Lesespass für zwischendurch! Teuflisch gut und himmlisch böse.
