Über den Autor und weitere Mitwirkende

Born in 1927 in Frankfurt, Laureen Nussbaum was the middle daughter of the Klein family. When she was eight, the Kleins left Hitler's Germany and settled in Amsterdam, close to Anne Frank and her family, old friends from Frankfurt. When Hans Calmeyer, the German official in charge of "dubious cases," decided in favor of their petition to be considered non-Jews, and Nussbaum's mother and sisters were allowed to shed their yellow stars, her father, living in a "privileged mixed marriage," was not deported. In 1957, Nussbaum and her husband, Rudi, moved to the United States and eventually, settled in Portland, OR, where Rudi joined the faculty of Portland State University (PSU). There, Nussbaum went back to school and subsequently got her PhD in German Language and Literature at the University of Washington. She joined the faculty of PSU, published dozens of academic papers, and eventually retired as a full professor. In 2012, after her husband's death, she moved to Seattle.

I really like the Berrington series. Filled with interesting, diverse characters living at a significant time in history. The setting is the beginning of the end of a long period of time when Christians, Jews and Muslims lived together in relative peace and harmony until all came crashing down in the horror of the Inquisition. Berrington is especially interesting as a soldier turned healer who seems to have friends, or at least acquaintances in almost all of the many camps and factions. Hope there is another book in the series.

Book five fits like a glove. Thomas Berrington, Lubna, Jorge, Olaf, Helena, Will, Isabelle and Fernando all feel like old friends. Berrington prevails again against evil forces. The Queen and King of Spain are again in desperate need of the best physician in Spain, and as always, Queen Isabelle gets what she wants, regardless of what Thomas Herrington wants. Enjoy book five of the series.

As always, well researched history, wrapped in a fascinating story , is the best way for the past to be rememberable and understandable. This visit to a relatively unknown time is a unique view of 2 belief systems shown in a new light. Very good read, tight story and terrific characters !

Another great story with Thomas Berrington as central figure. Nice twits and turns in plot with a surprising ending. A great story and all the books in series are excellent. Read in order they do refer back.
