Bsp: English: What's on your mind? -> Deutsch: Was bewegt dich? Was hast Du auf dem Herzen? Was beschäftigt dich?

Coaching is an essential skill for leaders and in today's complex, fast–paced business world a critical one too. But for most leaders, coaching employees is done badly, or not at all. Michael Bungay Stanier‘s book The Coaching Habit is a great read that makes a compelling case for the benefits of coaching employees and gives managers seven essential questions they can use to coach their employees in 10 minutes or less as well as tools to support their coaching. The seven questions are#1 What's on your mind?#2 And what else?#3 What's the real challenge here for you?#4 What do you want?#5 How can I help?#6 If you're saying yes to this, what are you saying no to?#7 What was most useful for you?Michael wrote a book that will benefit those starting to consider the benefits of adopting a coaching style as part of their leadership skills-set. The book’s very readable, straightforward and full of tips and other resources. The reader’s also invited to explore Michael’s website and watch videos of examples of how to apply his approach in daily business. And if you‘re uncomfortable with the process of coaching I think this book‘s also a very good starting point in order to improve your coaching skills.

The subtitle of the book is 'say less, ask more & change the way you lead forever'. And that is what it helps you do. It helps you become a better coach by using a few very simple questions you can apply during your coaching sessions. One of the main points the book makes is that you should ask questions instead of offering solutions or giving answers. Ask questions so that the other person can find their own solutions, make mistakes and from that grow. As coaches we often want to fix things, and by doing so we take away an opportunity for the other person to learn and grow. The book also provides a simple technique to change your habits. Very useful when taming the advice monster!I will not share the 7 central coaching questions that are offered in the book, that would not give the book the credit it deserves. While reading the book, I was really curious to find out what the next question would be. That is how the book is written: it builds up, giving you context and explanation before revealing the next coaching question.Since reading it, I have been applying the coaching questions and techniques from the book (not enough as I want to - still learning!) and I found the results very positive. By just asking questions, I was surprised how different my 1-1s became and how my reports came with great solutions and self-reflections. I think it's a very useful book, and I often go back to it to re-read certain parts of it.

Asking questions goes a long way bringing about good coaching results. However, a lot of the time you can't confine yourself to just asking and taking in the answers but you have to take a stance, you need to confront, you must actively get to the bottom of a matter. You have to be able to deal with conflict. You have to start a conversation and drive it forward. Bungay Stanier's book is too short on this important aspect. I fear in a lot of all too frequent circumsances his book might encourage bad management.

Great book with lots of useful information as well as many online videos.I purchased this book as an Amazon recommendation to two other books that I purchased. I read this first and enjoyed and digested all the information quickly. I’ve now started one of the other books I ordered of similar subject matter and prefer this book. 👍👍👍

Unbedingt empfehlenswert!
